About Half a Cow Club

Half a Cow Club is a directory that connects families with local farms, butchers, and co-ops selling bulk beef. We believe everyone deserves access to quality, farm-raised meat at fair prices.

Our Mission

We started this directory because buying meat in bulk shouldn't be complicated. Too many families don't know that buying a quarter or half cow directly from a farm can save them hundreds of dollars a year while getting better quality meat than the grocery store.

Our goal is simple: make it easy to find and connect with local farmers and butchers in your area who sell bulk beef, pork, lamb, and other meats.

What We Do

  • Maintain a curated directory of farms and suppliers across the United States
  • Verify supplier information and keep listings up to date
  • Provide educational guides on buying bulk meat, understanding pricing, and more
  • Offer calculators to help you estimate costs and freezer space needs

Our Experience

This project was born from personal experience. After years of buying bulk beef from local farms and splitting orders with neighbors, we realized how much knowledge was scattered and hard to find. We built Half a Cow Club to share what we've learned and help others navigate the process.

We've personally purchased from dozens of farms, learned about different sourcing practices (grass-fed, grain-finished, organic), and figured out the ins and outs of cut sheets, hanging weights, and freezer logistics.

Editorial Standards

We research each supplier before adding them to our directory. While we can't personally visit every farm, we verify basic information, check reviews, and prioritize suppliers with transparent practices.

Some listings include affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase. This helps support the site but never influences our recommendations. We clearly mark affiliate relationships and only partner with suppliers we'd recommend to friends and family.
