Text alerts for farms

Farms listed on Half a Cow Club can choose to get account notifications by text: a message when a buyer near them asks us to find beef. The texts come from our toll-free number, +1 (888) 371-9577, and go only to farms that asked for them. We never text buyers. Half a Cow Club is operated by Known by One, LLC.

Sign-up takes three steps. These are the real pages, shown with example buyer details.

1. We email a listed farm when a buyer near it asks for beef. The email links to a claim page for that buyer.

2. Below the buyer's details, the claim page asks "Prefer lead alerts by text?". The farm presses "Let us know" to open the sign-up.

3. The farm types its mobile number, ticks the consent box and presses Save. The box is never ticked in advance, and nothing is saved until the farm presses Save.

The wording next to the box:

Text alerts are optional. A farm does not need them to be listed or to get buyers, because every alert also goes by email.

Right after sign-up, one confirmation:

Half a Cow Club: you're set to get account notifications by text when a buyer near your farm asks for beef. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to end texts or HELP for help.

Then one text with each buyer alert we email the farm, at most one alert a day. It gives the buyer's area, distance and the share they want, with a link to the request. For example:

Half a Cow Club: a buyer 23 miles from you (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) wants a half beef share. See the request: https://halfacowclub.com/claim/abc123 Reply STOP to end texts.

If a farm texts us, it gets this reply, and Taro answers by text or email:

Thanks, Taro here at Half a Cow Club. I read every text and will answer within a day. To take a buyer, use the link in the alert.

No marketing goes out by text. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

Reply STOP to any text and the texts stop. Email alerts carry on; to stop those too, use the link in any alert email. Reply START to turn texts back on, or HELP for help. You can also email contact@halfacowclub.com. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We use a farm's mobile number only to send these texts and answer the farm's own. Mobile numbers and text-message consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Our Privacy Policy and Terms for Farms cover the rest.
